Danielle McPherson Named Scholar Athlete of the Year
January 14, 2013
Senior Danielle McPherson has been named our 2012-2013 Scholar Athlete. Recognized for her cumulative grade point average, varsity sport participation, community service as well as her self-discipline and leadership, she will be honored at the Annual Connecticut High School Scholar Athlete Awards Dinner on May 5 at the Aqua Turf Club.
A member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta Honor Math Honor Society, Danielle was a standout varsity basketball and soccer player. This fall she was named the one captain of the Sacred Heart soccer team and outside of school, she played for a premier soccer team and also served as their only captain. She also played for a premier basketball team that travels throughout New England. Dani is a member of Key Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), and has volunteered for Special Olympics. She participated in the Sacred Heart Mission Trip to Camden, New Jersey last year, where she worked with mentally challenged adults, the elderly, and the homeless.
“Danielle McPherson is an exceptional student and an exceptional athlete. She was captain of our soccer team and inspired her team by setting an example for others to follow. Dani demonstrated a tremendous work ethic on and off the field. She was named to the SCC All Quinnipiac Division Team. A true leader in every sense of the word,” offered George Bedocs, Athletic Director and Varsity Soccer Head Coach.
According to Kerry Alexander, Director of Guidance, “Danielle has earned high honors for all four years. She is a stellar student who has and is taking our most challenging courses. But Dani is more than just her grades. She is a volunteer, a member of three National Honor Societies, a student ambassador for our school, a member of our clubs. At the same time, Danielle is a premier athlete. She plays basketball and soccer for Sacred Heart Academy, captaining our soccer team this year, along with playing on premier soccer and basketball teams outside of school. Quite simply, she does it all, and she does it well.”
Sacred Heart is proud!
