Elizabeth Lamont – Our 2017 Valedictorian
May 31, 2017
When Elizabeth was accepted to Sacred Heart, she was awarded the Sister Antonine Signorelli Scholarship for her outstanding performance on the entrance exam. In sophomore year, she represented Sacred Heart at the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar. As a junior, she was the recipient of the Yale Book Award. In both junior and senior year, she was selected to participate in the Moody’s Mega Math Challenge, a national math modeling competition. In the fall, she was named a National Merit Commended Scholar. This spring she was named a Summa Scholar by the Archdiocese of Hartford and recognized by the Connecticut Association of Schools for Excellence in the Arts.
Elizabeth was inducted to National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), and French National Honor Society. She was co-president of Key Club, a member of the Campus Ministry Leadership Team, president of Art Club, and co-captain of Varsity Golf. Elizabeth was in the cast of the Sacred Heart musical all four years and was a member of the Sister to Sister Club where students visit with the retired Sisters at Sacred Heart Manor and now enjoys a part-time job at “the Manor”.
Elizabeth is undecided on a major, but is considering art, art history, or history. In the summers following her sophomore and junior year, she worked as a junior intern at Old Sturbridge Village, a living history museum in Massachusetts.
Reflecting on her time at Sacred Heart, Elizabeth offers, “What I love about Sacred Heart is that it is a place where everyone is loved, cared for, and given opportunities, not only to learn, but to grow in every aspect as a person.”
