State Awards Sacred Heart Security Grant
March 17, 2015
The Academy is pleased to announce that we have received a $17,891.50 reimbursement grant from the State of Connecticut School Security Competitive Grant Program to be used to cover costs associated with implementing our school security plan.
Offered Dean of Studies and Security Coordinator Annette Vasaturo, “90% of funds available were awarded to eligible public schools and 10% of funds to non-public schools so we are particularly thrilled to be a grant recipient. Through this grant we were able to enhance our security measures here at Sacred Heart.”
Eligible applicants must have conducted a uniform security assessment of school security including infrastructure, using the National Clearinghouse for Educational Facilities’ Safe Schools Facilities Check List, and also have in place a Security and Safety Plan which is periodically practiced.
Annette Vasaturo heads up the Emergency Operations Plan/Safety Committee at Sacred Heart which meets monthly and strives to: ensure each student and staff member’s right to attend school without fear of violence to themselves and/or others; promote a safe school which, in turn, enhances the learning environment necessary for a quality school; identify and promote programs for school safety; and foster cooperation between Sacred Heart Academy and public services in the community.
