Sacred Heart to Welcome the New Archbishop
September 26, 2014
Archbishop Leonard P. Blair, S.T.D. will preside over the Academy’s Annual Enthronement Mass on Friday, October 3, beginning at 8:10 am. Enthronement will take place in the Mount Sacred Heart Chapel.
There are three events on the Sacred Heart Academy calendar that have taken place since the school was founded in 1946: The Enthronement of the Sacred Heart, May Crowning, and the Annual Musical Production. Each year, Enthronement takes place in October, often on First Friday.
“We are delighted to have Archbishop Blair here for this long-standing tradition. At Enthronement, we symbolically crown Jesus as the King and Center of our lives and make our Act of Consecration to His Sacred Heart, and reaffirm the vows of our lifetime commitment of faith that we made at our Baptism and that we also confirm when we receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. There is a court and one senior is chosen each year by her class to crown the Sacred Heart,” said President Sr. Sheila O’Neill, ASCJ, Ph.D.,’71.
Senior Lennix Cuffy ’15 was voted unanimously by her class to do the crowning. Each year, Sacred Academy students plan the Enthronement Mass, do the readings, and select special music under the direction of Director of Campus Ministry Sr. Lany Jo Smith, ASCJ. Parents of those in the court are invited to share in this special Mass.
Following Enthronement, there will be a reception for the Archbishop. He will then be given a tour of the school, visit classes, and meet with faculty and students.
President Sr. Sheila O’Neill was thrilled when Archbishop Blair, who became the fifth Archbishop of Hartford last December, accepted our invitation.
