Summa Scholars & Inspirational Teachers – A Winning Combo
April 30, 2013
Seniors Haley Barnum, Tess Cersonsky, Christina Jiang, Raeanne Nuzzo, and Lindsey Seyfried were recently honored as Summa Scholars by Dr. Dayle R. Hoyt, Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Hartford. These five students, all of whom met the 4.3 or higher GPA criteria, were asked to select and speak about the educator who influenced them most throughout their high school years. Our students selected faculty members Chris Hartel, Kathy Gniadek, and Sibani Sengupta.
Upon her return, Principal Sr. Maureen Flynn, ASCJ, ’81 offered, “I had the privilege of seeing these five young women honored as Summa Scholars for their superior academic achievement and to hear the inspirational stories of so many gifted Catholic school teachers.”
Dr. Julia M. McNamara, President of Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, was the keynote speaker at the ceremony held at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield. Summa Scholars received bronze medallions engraved with their names, the crest of the Archdiocese and a prayer:
“May you find truth through faith, knowledge, and wisdom.” Students presented certificates of recognition to inspirational teachers.
Congratulations to these academically talented students and their inspirational teachers on this well-deserved recognition.
